"As far as I'm concerned, a horse should be able to play with its friends, so I don't think stabling is an option," says Josien. "Repairing blankets is not my talent, and I find the scratching so sad that I can't bear to watch it. I also didn't trust any of the lubricants. In short, no horse with eczema for me... but then Spölur came along. I was going to break him in so that he could be sold afterwards. Spölur had eczema, but since he was only going to be there for a few months, I accepted that. He turned out to be so nice that I didn't want to part with him, so I bought him, eczema and all."

There had to be something...

Shortly afterwards, I told my stable mate Rita Sophie about my purchase. I told her that I was really worried about how I could give Spölur the most pleasant life possible, with lots of playtime in the meadow and without itching. She was surprised that nothing helped. According to her, there had to be something out there. She promised to look into it.

Playing in the meadow

At one point, she asked me if I wanted to try something her company had developed. After she had explained in detail how her team had come up with the product, I decided to use Spölur as a test horse. I found it quite exciting to leave him outside without a blanket, day and night. But it went well. Spölur stood outside without a blanket and played with his friends. Every day, I checked his entire body and treated the vulnerable areas. After a while, I dared to do this less frequently, and in the second half of the summer, I was able to assess whether treatment was still necessary."

Spölur spent the entire summer outside and did not experience any itching. His mane and tail have grown beautifully long and full. This way, having a horse with eczema is not a problem. He is happy, and I am happy!
