Summer Eczema

Summer eczema, also called tail and mane eczema, is an itchy skin condition in ponies and horses. It is caused by an allergic reaction to the saliva of Culicoides midges. The eczema is often visible at the mane and base of the tail and sometimes on the head and belly. It occurs mainly in the summer months, but the mosquitoes are sometimes active from the end of February to November. With the increase in the number of mosquitoes in recent years, the number of animals with summer eczema is also increasing.
Summer eczema is accompanied by a lot of itching, which leads to rubbing and the appearance of little wounds. These in turn cause itching and the process continues. Happy Skin Spray breaks this cycle, supporting the affected skin and reducing itching.

Midges go away

Moles prefer a sheltered, humid environment (woodland) in which to reproduce. The female midges become active at dawn and dusk and seek out horses and ponies to suck blood. They are not very good fliers and do not like windy places (problem rare on the coast). It has been scientifically proven that all kinds of flying insects are repelled if the skin is treated with specific vegetable fatty acids. They land less on the skin and are then less active. The composition of Happy Skin Skin Spray is adjusted to this. It also contains peppermint oil, which midges do not find attractive either.

Reaction of the immune system

Unlike normal mosquitoes, midges do not bite. They suck blood which they coagulate with their saliva. The proteins in the saliva cause a violent immune system reaction in sensitive horses or ponies. Certain breeds of horse are more sensitive, but there is also a great variation in individual sensitivity. Specific monoglycerides of vegetable fatty acids have a proven effect in suppressing a strong reaction of the immune system. These monoglycerides are therefore included in the composition of Happy Skin Skin Spray.

Supports the regenerative capacity of affected skin

The repeated rubbing caused by itching slows down the healing of wounds. Contamination of the wound with all kinds of nasty bacteria also slows down wound healing. Fatty acids and monoglycerides have a proven antibacterial effect against the bacteria that can cause problems on the skin. Propylene glycol, which is contained in Happy Skin Skin Spray, also has a positive effect on the skin. It moisturises the skin and makes the antibacterial ingredients penetrate the wound better.

Interaction between skin and gut

The health of the skin, stomach and intestines are closely linked. In case of gastrointestinal problems, we often also see abnormalities in the skin. That is why it is good to support the intestinal system in case of skin disorders as well. Happy Belly Solid ensures support of the intestines and optimal digestion. Happy Belly Solid is good for a balanced intestinal biota and supports a healthy skin and coat. Also for the older horse.
