Josien & Spölur

As far as I am concerned, a horse should be able to play with its friends, so I do not consider stabling an option. Blanket mending is not my talent and I find the scratching so pathetic that I cannot watch it. I don't trust all the lubricants either. In short, no horse with eczema for me... but then Spölur came. I was going to break him in so that he could be sold afterwards. Spölur had eczema, but as he was only coming for a few months, I took that for granted. He turned out to be so nice that I did not want to lose him, so I bought him, including eczema. That was in November 2019.

There had to be something...

Shortly afterwards, I told my stablemate Rita Sophie about my purchase. I told her that I had been thinking a lot about how to give Spölur a life as pleasant as possible with lots of playing in the meadow and without itching. She was surprised that there was nothing that helped. She thought that there must be something. She promised to look into it.

Playing in the meadow

At one point, she asked if I would like to try something that her company had developed. After she had explained at length how her team had come to the product, I wanted to use Spölur as a test horse. I found it quite exciting to leave him without a blanket. Day and night. In the beginning I was curious every morning how I would find him in the meadow. It went well. Spölur stood outside without a blanket and played with his friends. Every now and then I received another bottle with an updated version of the product. Every day I checked his whole body and treated the vulnerable spots. After a while I dared to do that less frequently and in the second half of the summer I was able to judge very well whether treatment was still necessary.

Spölur has been outside all summer and has not had any itching. His mane and tail have grown long and full. In this way, having a horse with eczema is not a problem. I am happy, he is happy!
